Pub Closures Continue

It seems that a recent survey shows a very gloomy picture for pub closure rates in the UK as pubs continue to close at an alarming rate. The survey completed by CAMRA’s What Pub online guide covers around 47,500 pubs from across all corners of the UK.

Between July 2016 and December 2016 455 pubs closed down which is 17.5 pubs closing every week. Meanwhile January 2017 until July 2017 shows 525 pubs closing down during the period, which is 20.2 pubs closing each week and between July 2017 and December 2017 a total of 460 pubs closed down, which is 17.7 pubs a week.

These results included the East of England and South East England both with the highest amount of pubs closing at 62, closely followed by North West England at 59 pubs closing, meanwhile just 16 pubs closed in North East England.

However, it is important to note that this survey does not include information on pubs opening and we have certainly seen many licensed premises opening – but, these may not be as more traditional pubs that would be covered by CAMRA.

We have worked with many pub, bar and restaurant owners for their stocktaking because it is such an important part of running a successful catering or hospitality business. Your wet stock take and food stock take will tell you what you have in your premises, what you need more of and what you can lay off ordering.

Your stocktaker can help you look into the future but looking at reports and trends over the years and they can also look out for discrepancies or missing stock, which could harm your bottom line.

When you hire the services of an independent stocktaker they aren’t just there to count your stock and come back again every few months to do the same thing again. Your stocktaker will work with you, count your stock, check your buying and selling prices, check for errors and go through the reports with you to make sure you are getting the best for your business, while being prepared financially and with stock for your busier and slower periods.
