I started my working life in banking, but also helped my parents to run the family pub in Oxfordshire. I quickly understood that tight control over the pub’s stock was the difference between order and chaos, happy customers or disgruntled ones, profit or deficit… make or break.
When my parents went on to purchase a larger hotel in Cumbria and I joined the family business full-time, the importance of good stock management and auditing took centre stage in my mind once again. My parents knew what they were doing – masters of organisation and stock control – and I was their willing apprentice. But around us, locally, regionally and nationally, I saw pubs, hotels, golf clubs, night clubs and restaurants struggling to stay afloat. Many even disappeared.
I then went on to work in Hotels in London and Cambridgeshire, a pub near Southampton and a Golf Club in Cambridgeshire. With my banking and hospitality background, I decided I could offer so much more to Owners and Licensees in helping them manage costs in their business and effectively account for their stock, whether wet stock or food, so they could focus on sales and more pressing business activities.
I am also an active member of my local community and support various types of networking groups in our area.
