Here at Sterling Stock Auditors, we work hard to make the stock taking process easier for our clients. We will always share advice and guidance that we think will help business owners in the catering and hospitality trade.
Today we would like to share five fantastic stock delivery tips that will help any restaurant, hotel or business with a bar!
1. Make sure that all empty barrels, bottles and packaging are either removed from the cellar or moved to one side. You need to make sure that it is away from existing stock so you can place the correct orders, and away from where new stock that is being delivered will be placed.
2. Take the time to mark the full barrels that are in your cellar. This will make it easier for you to complete checks during stock deliveries to the cellar and give you a quick and easy guide when double checking the products that have been delivered.
3. Check all of the barrels and stock as they are taken off the delivery vehicle. You need to check you have the right stock, that is in date and not damaged stock before it goes into your cellar or delivery area. After this point it can be tricky to check stock or make complaints / queries to the supplier.
4. We understand that the catering and hospitality trade is busy and you have 100 and 1 other things to do when the delivery driver arrives. However, you must never leave delivery drivers unattended; they must be supervised at all times. This means you know that no stock has been taken in error and all stock ordered has been delivered.
5. When you have deliveries of new stock you need to check it off as it comes off the delivery vehicle, but you also need to make sure that the delivery is properly checked by you and the driver. You and the delivery driver will then both need to sign to say the delivery is complete and to note any queries, missing products or concerns.
