The latest Greene King Leisure Spend Tracker Report has just been published for August. This is the first month that figures can be compared year on year.
The average British Household spent £247 this August compared with £242 in August 2013. This was a rise of £5 or 2%.
The main growth was seen in Eating Out which rose by 11% year on year, driven by families eating out.
Due to a colder than normal August bank holiday Drink spending fell 2% compared with the same month last year, as outside drinking was less of an attraction.
Due to families looking to keep their children occupied during the School Holidays, the average household increased to spending on leisure by 22% compared to July. Spending £328, which is the largest monthly spend over the last year.
The report shows that the year on year growth is general across the whole of the GB, and not just restricted to London and the South East.
Greene King’s Commercial Director , Steve Jebson, said ” In spite of continued pressure on real earnings, growing confidence helped drive modest growth in spend on out of home leisure in August across all areas.
Greene King also looked at how frequently households expected to watch Premiership football in pubs during the current season. Steve revealed that “Twenty five per cent of GB adults anticipate they will go to the pub at least once to watch a Premiership match this season and more than a third of these intend to go at least once a month.”
