HMRC Cancels MGD Late Payment Penalities Due to Computer Error

It is reported by Propel.Info that HMRC is to cancel all Penalties issued to date for late filing of MGD (Machine Games Duty) and late Payment fines due to many of the Penalties having been issued incorrectly by the HMRC Automated System.
Any Penalties already paid will be refunded by HMRC and any appeals that have been lodged with them will be cancelled as they have cancelled the penalties.

An HRMC Spokesman said “HMRC wants to provide their customers with good service and for them to have certainty about their MGD affairs, and HMRC are sorry for any worry their mistake has caused. For a short period HMRC will not issue any new automated penalties for late filing of MGD returns and late payment of MGD. HMRC will restart issuing automatic penalties as soon they can be sure that their systems are working properly.
