The latest Greene King leisure tracker reveals that households in Britain spent 10% (£20) more in March compared to the same period in 2015, rising to an average spend of £216. This was also up by 19% compared with February.
The rise was driven by Spending on Eating Out, which saw its largest March increase, increasing by 18% year on year. The report puts this down to the good weather on Good Friday and the Easter school holidays.
The report also highlighted a new trend of “lads who lunch”, with 43% of men surveyed stating that their weekend pub visit is mainly to have lunch with family 7 friends. With only 19% stating that their visit was to watch sport.
Greene King’s Group Marketing Director, Fiona Gunn, said “Easter falling early this year saw many British households increase their leisure spending across the board, particularly in Eating Out. There was also the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival, which boosted Other Leisure spending, and the fact that the school holidays allowed many families to enjoy some quality time together out of the home.”
