The Greene Leisure Spend Tracker Report for March 2015 has just been released, and shows that for the first time since the report was started Drinking Out has led the growth over Eating Out. However, Total Leisure spend was the same as in February, but showed a 2% fall year on year.
- 6% increase in Drinking Out, year on year, whilst Eating Out showed a 5% increase.
- Other Leisure was up 1% on the previous month, but continued to fall on a year on year basis, down by 11%.
- There continues to be a north south split, with household in London & the South East showing a 3% fall in Eating Out spend, year on year whilst the Rest of Britian showed an 8% increase in spend.
- In March the spend on leisure by the average British Household was £195, which was down 2% versus the same month last year, but the same as in February.
Greene King’s Marketing Director, Fiona Gunn, said “Although the gap has reduced this month, we are still seeing households cut their domestic leisure spend year-on-year. This could be due to people choosing to spend on big ticket items instead, such as cars and holidays, and last month saw Gatwick and Heathrow see record passenger numbers as many chose to get away for an early spring break.
